In Auto mode, just pluck any string near your phone's microphone. The app detects the note automatically, shows it on the dial, and highlights the matching string.

Watch the needle
The semicircle dial shows whether you're sharp (right) or flat (left). Tune until the needle points straight up and the display reads PERFECT.
